I saw the reviews for this place. We've been craving tex mex for awhile. We've missed it since we've moved from Houston. And there's not a lot that gets close in the area. This place does. It's a small family restaurant, clean, friendly and the price was right. I was not expecting the meal to compete with actual tex mex, but it does. It was so delicious, fresh...it was koala-tea. Honestly I have no problem saying it's our favorite restaurant in the area and we're choosy. The service was outstanding from start to finish. I waited to post this, because I didn't want to blow our new spot up, but honestly I'm gonna go as long as they're open.

Honestly I feel like 1 star is even a stretch! I had high hopes for my first Mexican meal in Hanover after reading all the wonderful reviews! Left sorely disappointed! We got in there and got some chips and salsa pretty quickly -but then waited over 45 min for our food -meanwhile 4 tables that arrived after us got there food very quickly. Our server made no apologies and conveniently disappeared for most of the wait. First and last visit for sure!

Amazing homemade quality Mexican food!
El Rancho, definitely not to be confused with the mediocre chain El Rodeo, is serving up delicious Mexican fair with more of a family twist on the dishes. The restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but inside it is spotlessly clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated. Even though this was our first visit we were warmly welcomed by multiple staff members. Service throughout our visit was friendly and attentive. We had to laugh because they had a red or green tamale that night as an appetizer and my wife (who loves tamales) and I were trying to decide if we wanted to try the red or the green. Our server made the decision for us stating, in a parent/mother voice, "I'll just bring you one of each."...Loved this!
The menu covers many of the traditional Mexican dishes, but adjusted to meet the family's recipes. In addition to the tamales, we ordered the chips and pico de gallo. This was different than the usual "salsa". It was chopped/chunked and served on a plate with chips. We loved it this way because you could tell it was freshly made by hand, with great flavor. The meals we tried on the visit were the Al Pastor tacos and the carnitas platter. The tacos, 4 per order on corn tortillas, which did not fall apart, were very flavorful and had a very good portion of meat. The carnitas platter contained a very large portion of perfectly cooked and seasoned pork, with rice and beans. The beans were made from a white bean and were a nice change to the traditional black/refried beans. Both meals were incredible!
We both stated that this is better than any Mexican we've had in the HBG area!! El Rancho is a BYOB restaurant and I had originally planned on taking away one star for that since it was National Margarita Day and we couldn't order a margarita, but the food and service far made up for being BYOB! This is a great stop if you are in the Hanover area!! -

The service is always amazing and the food is great. Just recently found this spot thanks to a friend and it's by far one of my new favorite spots to go to. Great selection and who doesn't love Mexican food!

Authentic Mexican. Small nachos were a great starter. Ceviche de Camarones also a winner. As other Yelpers have said ~ can't go wrong with the carnitas. Moist & flavorful w/o being greasy. My 2 personal wishes~ chips and salsa. An appetizer size ceviche. Would drive an hour to eat here & hit up Half Pint, just a couple miles up the road.
